Batteries (9 V)

For a reliable supply of power for your 9V electric fencer.

The electric fence battery is the classic energy source for battery-powered devices. It lasts for several months and involves the least effort when it comes to supplying energy to a pasture fence device for smaller fence systems or mobile pastures.

Our battery types at a glance

Our alkaline dry batteries can be used for all 9 volt electric fencers. They have a high voltage curve over the entire service life and guarantee optimum device function. It is therefore recommended to use this type of battery, especially for more powerful devices.

The zinc-carbon dry cell battery is a low-cost alternative to the Alkine battery. It has a lower voltage curve over its entire service life compared to the Alkine battery. Less powerful devices can nevertheless be operated with a zinc-carbon battery without any problems and without affecting the herding voltage at the fence.

How long does a pasture fence battery last?

Practical tip (theoretical calculation):

  1. Take the capacity of the battery (given in Ah), as well as the current consumption of the battery device (given in amperes) from the respective type plates of the devices.
  2. Multiply by the efficiency (the usable capacity) of the pasture fence battery to obtain the available energy:
Capacity of the battery in Ah x 0.75 (efficiency) = available energy in Ah (in practice, one can assume an efficiency of 75 %).

  3. If you divide the available energy by the power consumption of the electric fence, you get the running time in hours:
Available energy (Ah) / current consumption of the device (amps) = running time in hours (h)

Why not use a car battery for the electric fence?

A 12V car battery and that of the electric fence have a comparable Ah value, which is why the assumption would be that a conventional car battery could be used for the electric fence device. However, this should be avoided.

A car battery is not designed to be deeply discharged. However, if it is still used for the electric fence device, this can be done once, after which it is discharged and permanently damaged, the car battery will no longer be able to achieve full performance. The main difference between a car battery and a pasture fence battery lies in the details (plate material and construction). Pasture fence batteries are designed precisely for this type of operation (cycles fixed).

What needs to be considered when storing and disposing of pasture fence batteries?

Each horizont pasture fence battery can be stored for up to two years without any significant loss of capacity. Batteries cannot be recharged. If your battery falls below a voltage of 5.5 volts, it is empty and must be disposed of.
