Sheep and goat bell

When the subject of animal bells comes up, the first thought that comes to mind is probably cows. However, not only cattle but also sheep and goats wear bells. Bells are an ideal tool for identifying animals. By means of the sound you are always informed about the whereabouts of your animals.

But why animal bells?

As already mentioned, they serve as an optimal identification of the animals. Their main task is first of all the signalling function. Should a sheep or a goat have escaped from the shepherd, he can easily find his animals again by means of the ringing. Among the animals themselves, it also provides an advantage. If a member of the group strays, he can find his way back more easily because of the ringing.

Apart from the practical background, bells also have a certain decorative aspect. This is especially present in cowbells and the leather straps that go with them.

Difference between a bell and a clamp

Nowadays, bells are often made of brass, a copper-zinc alloy, whereas in the past they were made of bronze. Bells, on the other hand, are made of sheet metal and welded at the sides. The main distinction would be the shapes. Bells differ between Schmalschelle and Froschmaulschelle. Bells, on the other hand, between Swiss and Paris bells.

Swiss brass bells are usually used as animal bells, especially for cows, sheep and goats.
